The opportunity & key responsibilities

We are looking for a consultant to join our Food and Beverage (F&B) advisory team. This role will be based in either one of our Harston (Cambridge) or Epsom R&D centres. Reporting to the F&B Advisory Lead, you will be responsible for:

  • Project delivery mainly for the F&B sector:
  • Complete ownership of project from start to finish, including budget control, leading client delivery meetings, and project team management
  • Lead and deliver advisory projects: plan for, monitor progress against and meet deadlines with consideration to project scope, evolving client requirements, and potential creep, ensuring client expectations are met
  • Manage multiple projects and project teams of analysts simultaneously whilst achieving project deliverables within budget, timeline and to the quality expected
  • Build effective relationships with clients and colleagues
  • Conduct primary research (phone/online/in-person interviews) to gain insights from key opinion leaders like academics, industry players, and market commentators
  • Own project delivery by generating logical conclusions based on the data sourced
  • Lead and organise client workshops

Support new business development and sales in the F&B sector:

  • Support key account management and new business development in the F&B sector by joining client meetings
  • Support the development of new proposals of new projects / new clients
  • Support / lead discussions with clients on scope, methodology, time plans and budget
  • Develop subject-specific expertise

Help develop F&B junior team members by:

  • Sharing project & industry experiences and case studies
  • Managing the projects where they work as analysts
  • Developing subject-specific expertise to understand client motivation
  • Coaching

About you

  • Enthusiastic about innovation and strategy; an interest in F&B industry in general, and particularly R&D, innovation, strategy, right to win, right to play
  • Able to understand clients’ objectives to shape solutions
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and being able to tailor your approach to the target audience
  • Taking the initiative working with clients
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Flexible and adaptable approach to work; inspired and creative, always looking for new ways to solve problems
  • Strong interpersonal skills and attention to detail

Experience & qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in food science/technology or business, economics, engineering, or a science-related field

Experience in either one of these, which is a sign of a strong F&B industry experience:

  • Consultancy
  • Product development
  • Packaging development
  • Ingredients marketing (B2B)
  • Consultancy experience preferred but not essential

Experience in managing and delivering projects to tight timescales and budgets

Excellent verbal and written communication skills
