Our client wanted to develop a way for consumers to measure their hair properties at home that was highly accurate, but cheap enough to be given away as a disposable. 


  • Assessed various options and identified optical smartphone based measurements as a solution
  • Developed algorithms and demonstrated proof-of-principle measurements on a smartphone
  • Performed validation tests against real hair samples to determine the accuracy and reliability
  • Our solution offered a highly precise measurement method using only a modern smartphone and a cheap, disposable aid
  • Smartphone based measurements offered the client a new platform for consumer engagement and collection of demographic information
